The Thomasville Board of Education announced the selection and appointment of Dr. Maria Pitre-Martin as the next Superintendent of Thomasville City Schools on July 29, 2013. She served as the State Director of K-12 Curriculum and Instruction at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, a position she held since March of 2011. Dr. Pitre-Martin has chosen the theme of "Excellence is the Standard" for the 2013-2014 school year. Although many qualified candidates applied, the board felt that Dr. Pitre-Martin's broad range of experience and credentials, strong communication skills, professionalism, and dedication would best serve the Thomasville City students, staff, and community for years to come. The board is confident that she will lead Thomasville City Schools to even higher achievement. During her four years at DPI, Dr. Pitre-Martin was instrumental in implementing and training teachers on the Common Core State Standards and the North Carolina Essential Standards. She also played a vital role in procuring the federal Race to the Top Funds. Dr. Pitre-Martin has been a successful teacher, associate principal, principal, assistant superintendent, and chief academic officer. Dr. Pitre-Martin greatly looks forward to the opportunity to lead Thomasville City Schools.
